What does the rate change mean in dollars?
Compare usage and daily supply at the same consumption. Enter all prices including GST, using the same units on both sides.
An illustration of a price change, not a market offer or a forecast. Seasonal usage can change the outcome. Excludes demand charges, time-of-use patterns, usage blocks, solar credits, discounts and other fees. No figures are saved by this calculator.
How to use the calculator
- Choose electricity or gas and copy the consumption and days from one billing period.
- Enter both usage rates in cents per kWh for electricity, or cents per MJ for gas.
- Enter both daily supply charges in dollars per day. Use prices including GST throughout.
- If you have several time bands or usage blocks, use a properly calculated weighted average or seek a detailed review. Do not choose just one cheap rate.
What the result means
The calculation divides period consumption by billing days, then multiplies that daily use by 365. Each usage rate and supply charge is applied to the same annual consumption. The result isolates a price change; it does not predict how much energy you will use.
A positive difference means the new usage-and-supply estimate costs more. A negative difference means it costs less. Equal totals show no change, even when the usage and supply components move in opposite directions. Results clear when you change an input.
What it does not include
Demand charges, time-of-use patterns, usage blocks, solar export credits, discounts, one-off credits and other fees are excluded. Seasonal businesses should use representative consumption. This tool does not select a market plan, check contract terms or guarantee savings.
To compare published business plans, use the bill check and confirm your postcode, network and fuel. That comparison normalises usage to 30-day months and annualises over 12 months, so its basis differs from this calculator’s 365-day price-change illustration. Both are estimates with exclusions.
