Our approach

How we compare business energy plans

We compare estimated annual usage and supply costs using the rates and usage on your bill. We show up to five available plans from our data panel, ordered by estimated annual cost. We do not compare every plan in the market.

What happens after you upload a bill?

  • LlamaIndex extracts your bill’s rates, usage and site details. You can review the postcode, network and business details before comparing.
  • We match published business plans to your postcode, fuel and network. A postcode alone does not establish eligibility.
  • Where enough comparable offers are available, you can choose a plan to discuss and compare up to three side by side. Selecting a plan does not switch your supply.

How is annual cost calculated?

For a flat-rate plan: annual usage × usage price + 365 × daily supply charge. Prices in cents are converted to dollars. Supported block tariffs are calculated using their usage tiers. Estimates include GST.

For example, 10,000 kWh at 30 cents/kWh plus a $2 daily supply charge gives an estimated $3,730 a year. At 28 cents/kWh with the same supply charge, the estimate is $3,530. The difference is $200. This is a worked example, not an available offer.

We annualise the usage extracted from the bill. A short billing period may not represent a full year, especially for seasonal businesses. The usage and supply comparison can differ from your bill’s total, which may include other charges or credits.

What do the estimates leave out?

Conditional discounts, solar export credits and one-off fees are excluded. Demand charges, time-of-use patterns, controlled loads, complex tariffs and other charges can change the final result. The automated shortlist is not a complete quote for a complex site.

Published plans still need checks for meter, tariff, network and retailer eligibility. Do not treat a shortlist as approval to switch. Confirm full pricing and contract terms before accepting a retailer offer.

Where do the rates come from?

Our market-plan data comes from published Consumer Data Right energy product data. We schedule rate refreshes and show the verification date with a comparison. If a refresh fails, we retain the previous rates while they remain within our freshness limit. Market-plan data older than 30 days is not used for a comparison.

WA and NT electricity are separate regulated tariff benchmark checks for eligible sites. WA gas uses published standard-contract caps in supported supply areas. NT gas needs a site-specific quote. A benchmark difference is not a confirmed switching saving.

What if a plan costs the same or more?

We show no saving for equal costs and state when a plan is more expensive. The enquiry keeps the plan you selected and its own estimate. If no cheaper comparable plan is found, we say so. Savings are never guaranteed.

How is the service paid for?

The bill check is free. If you choose to switch through us, the retailer pays us a commission. The automated shortlist is ordered by estimated annual cost, rather than commission. You can see a comparison without requesting a callback.
