Energy comparisons for cafés and restaurants
The right energy comparison for a café or restaurant starts with when you trade and what your bill charges. Refrigeration, cooking and heating can create very different usage patterns. Compare your own costs rather than a generic hospitality average.

Check my business billA breakfast café and a dinner venue use energy differently
List your opening hours and when major equipment is running. A café opening early may have a different time-of-use profile from a restaurant busy in the evening. Refrigeration may continue after the doors close.
Check peak and off-peak periods on your existing bill. If several large appliances start together, ask whether demand charges apply. A simple usage-rate comparison will not capture every part of a complex tariff.
Keep electricity and gas comparisons separate
Use the rates and units on each bill. Cooking or hot-water gas may have a separate supply charge and contract. A cheaper electricity option does not automatically mean a bundled gas deal is better.
Our tool checks one fuel bill at a time. Where eligible data is available, estimates include usage and supply with GST. WA gas has a separate cap benchmark path and NT gas requires a site-specific quote.
What to have ready
- A recent bill with the detailed usage and charges pages, not only the payment summary.
- Your postcode and network, plus annual usage if seasonal trade makes the latest month unusual.
- Notes about opening hours, gas appliances, solar exports and any demand charges.
- The contract end date and the terms of discounts or fees you are currently paying.
Separate a better tariff from lower consumption
Changing a plan changes what you pay for the energy. Reducing waste changes how much you use. Both deserve attention, but an estimated plan saving does not include an assumed reduction in consumption.
The shortlist is a first check from our available data panel. Confirm the full tariff, equipment-related demand profile and retailer eligibility before accepting an offer. You can ask about the selected plan without committing to switch.
