Moving premises
Get your energy arrangements ready before moving day
Contact the retailer early and confirm arrangements for both addresses. Moving premises may need a new plan, a connection or other site work. This checklist helps you prepare; our bill checker reviews existing bills and does not book connections or manage a business move.

Arrange connections and account changes directly with the retailer. This checklist and the bill-check tool do not book a connection or guarantee a connection date.
Before committing to the new premises
Ask the landlord or property manager how electricity and gas are supplied and billed. Check whether the premises has its own meters, an embedded network or shared building charges. Do not assume a previous tenant’s arrangement will suit your business.
Confirm what equipment the new site needs to support. A new meter, a disconnected supply or a capacity change can require additional work. Ask the retailer and a suitably qualified contractor what is needed before setting an opening date.
Arrange the new address with the retailer
Provide the new supply address, business details, required start date and meter identifiers where available. Ask whether your current plan can transfer or whether a different offer is needed. Check network and tariff eligibility at the new site.
Ask the retailer to confirm lead times, fees, meter access and any attendance or safety requirements in writing. Requirements vary by site and provider; there is no single guaranteed connection timeframe.
Close out the old premises deliberately
Tell the outgoing retailer when you intend to finish at the old address and where to send the final bill. Ask about any contract exit conditions, account closure requirements and applicable charges.
If you need both sites operating during a fit-out or handover, confirm the dates for each supply separately. Keep an address-by-address record so an intended overlap does not become an open-ended account.
At handover and on moving day
Where safely accessible, record dated meter readings and keep the retailer’s written confirmations for both addresses. Follow the retailer’s access and safety instructions. Do not access locked electrical areas or alter metering equipment.
Confirm the new supply status with the retailer before relying on it for trading. If a connection is delayed, contact the retailer directly. An enquiry through our comparison website does not book or guarantee energisation.
Check the final and first bills
Compare the old site’s final bill with the agreed end date and available reading. Check the new site’s first bill for the correct address, start date, tariff, daily supply charge and any agreed fees or credits.
Keep the two addresses’ usage separate. Different equipment, hours or building conditions can make the old bill a poor forecast for the new site. Once you have a representative bill for an existing supply, you can check supported comparison options using that bill.
What if the new site has no bill yet?
Arrange the supply directly with a retailer using the new site details. Ask what usage estimate or site information they need and what assumptions any quote uses. A newly built site can require a different process from taking over an already connected premises.
Our upload tool needs a supported existing bill. It does not create a new-connection quote from an empty address or treat a bill from another premises as proof of a new site’s costs.

Have a bill for your current premises?
Use it to review that existing supply. An old address’s bill does not establish the new site’s rates, eligibility or annual cost. Arrange connections directly with the retailer.
