Switch business electricity with the details checked

Start with your current bill and contract. Compare the full cost of a suitable offer, confirm your business is eligible, and ask the new retailer to explain the transfer before you agree. Choosing a plan in our tool only requests a discussion; it does not switch your supply.

Your switching checklist

Four steps before you move

  1. Review

Find your usage, tariff and current contract.

  2. Compare

Use the same usage and include all charges.

  3. Confirm

Check eligibility, fees and the written offer.

  4. Check

Match the first bill to the accepted rates.

Check whether your business can choose a retailer

Your options depend on the state, network and supply arrangement. A business in a shopping centre may have an embedded-network arrangement that needs a separate check. WA and NT electricity follow different benchmark paths in our tool.

Use the coverage guide before assuming a plan applies. Match the supply address and network on your bill, rather than relying on a postcode alone.

Gather the bill and contract details

Have the usage and charges pages ready, plus your current contract or renewal notice. Check the account holder, supply address, meter identifier, tariff, benefit end date and any early termination fee.

Use several bills or a full year of usage if your trading is seasonal. A quiet winter month may give the wrong picture of a business with heavy summer cooling.

Compare like-for-like costs

Use the same annual consumption and GST basis for each offer. Compare daily supply charges as well as usage rates. Ask about demand charges, time-of-use periods, solar credits and conditional discounts separately.

Worked example: a new plan appears $300 cheaper per year, but a confirmed $60 exit fee would reduce the first-year difference to $240. Other fees or different usage could change that result. These figures are illustrative.

Confirm the offer before accepting

Get the rates, fees, price-change terms and any benefit expiry in writing. A fixed contract length does not necessarily mean the price is fixed. Ask which charges the retailer can change.

Ask the incoming retailer to confirm the proposed transfer date, any meter requirements and what you need to do about your existing account. Keep your current supply arrangements in place until the process is confirmed.

Check the first bill after the transfer

Match the new bill against the accepted offer. Check the start date, rates, supply charge, opening reading and any agreed credit. Review the old retailer’s final bill too.

Keep a copy of the accepted offer and set a reminder before any benefit ends. If charges look wrong, contact the retailer with the bill and written offer.
