Compare business gas plans using your bill

A useful business gas comparison checks both usage and daily supply charges using equivalent billing units. We compare supported published natural gas plans where eligible data is available. WA uses a separate tariff-cap benchmark, and NT gas needs a site-specific quote.

What is included in a business gas bill?

The usage charge depends on the gas consumed. The daily supply charge is payable for each day of connection, including days when little gas is used. Other fees and credits can change the total amount due.

Some gas tariffs have usage blocks with different prices for different quantities. Those blocks may reset daily or over another billing period. Comparing only the first advertised rate can give the wrong impression of annual cost.

Compare gas units on the same basis

Natural gas bills often show usage in megajoules (MJ), while some tariffs use other units. One kilowatt hour of energy is 3.6 MJ. A price in cents per MJ cannot be compared directly with a price in cents per kWh without conversion.

Use the billed energy quantity, rate and applicable charge details. A meter-volume reading is not always the same as billed energy usage. Our extraction and comparison normalise supported billing units; missing or unclear data should be checked rather than guessed.

Where can we compare business gas plans?

For NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT, the tool checks whether our published data includes eligible business gas offers for your postcode and network. Being in one of these states or territories does not guarantee an available gas plan or a comparable tariff. We show an unavailable result when we cannot verify a match.

Gas and electricity coverage are separate. Upload and check each fuel bill separately. Our tool does not assume that a bundled electricity and gas contract is better than separate plans, or automatically price a dual-fuel bill as one offer.

Western Australian gas: a benchmark, not a switch offer

For supported, confirmed WA supply areas and eligible usage, we check published standard-contract gas caps. This is a regulated tariff benchmark rather than a shortlist of retailer offers. A difference against the cap is not a confirmed switching saving.

Additional retailer fees are excluded from the benchmark and need a separate check. The automated benchmark does not cover bottled gas or unsupported reticulated LPG supplies. Confirm the supply area, annual usage and full charges with the retailer.

Northern Territory gas: request a site-specific quote

We do not have a verified published NT gas tariff for automated savings comparisons. The NT gas path lets you request help with a site-specific quote instead. No instant annual saving is claimed.

The team needs to review the fuel and supply arrangement, usage, delivery charges, rental and any other recurring costs. Supplier availability and the complete quote determine whether another option is suitable. Requesting a quote does not commit your business to a contract.

What will a gas comparison show?

Where comparable market offers are available, the tool estimates annual usage and supply costs including GST. It shows up to five available plans and lets you compare up to three. Conditional discounts and one-off fees are excluded. Supported block-tariff estimates depend on the stated usage assumptions.

A bill from a quiet month may not represent a year of heating, cooking or seasonal production. Check the annual usage basis and ask for a fuller review if your supply or tariff is complex. The service does not compare every plan or guarantee savings.

What should I upload?

  • A recent natural gas bill with the detailed usage, billing period and charges pages.
  • The postcode and gas network, plus a MIRN where shown. Review the extracted details before comparing.
  • Annual usage or other bills if the latest period is unrepresentative, and the current contract’s end date or fee conditions.
  • For a quote review, details of LPG or delivery arrangements and rental charges where relevant. These are not automatically treated as natural gas tariff savings.
